April Director's Message
Spring has sprung -- at least some of the time! As we see the trees and spring flowers begin to bud and grow, we also look forward to the spring crop of new books -- and there are a lot to choose from!
Iris Johansen goes back to reveal previously unknown events in the life of her character, forensic sculptor Eve Duncan, in her newest offering Eve. the ever-popular David Baldacci has a new thriller: 6th Man. Nora Roberts new book, Chasing Fire, is sure to be a bestseller. If you are interested in non-fiction, we have The Autobiography of Mark Twain. We also have Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, the story of the remarkable survival of WWII bombardier, Louis Zamperini.
For the young people, we have a new collection of I Spy books and the last offering in the popular Fablehaven series, Keys to the Demon Prison. We also have many other new books.
Come in and check us out!
Remember that our hours have expanded. We are now open from 10 AM to 5 PM on Mondays and Fridays.
We look forward to seeing you!
June 2012 Director's Message
As I look out our window at this lovely, early June day, our cold, rainy spring seems like a bad dream. The weather today makes me excited to begin our Summer Reading Program. This year's program, "One World, Many Stories" begins Monday, June 13th and meets in our Community Room. Miss Merrie Knapp will be leading the group of Kindergarten through 4th graders. (Age will be based on the grade you are leaving.) There will be age appropriate stories, games and crafts. One thing is for sure -- it will be FUN!
The Library will also be holding a Summer Reading Contest which is being sponsored by McDonald's of Tekonsha. McDonald's will be supplying a brand new bike for our grand prize drawing on August 26th! You may earn tickets for the drawing by READING!! The more you read, the more tickets you will receive and the more chances to win that cool bike! Register for the Reading Race at the Circulation Desk at the Library. We will also have weekly prize drawings beginning July 15th. Be sure to get registered as soon as possible and start READING!!!
For the adults, we have lots of new books. Check them out! Also, the long-awaited and promised computer expansion will be happening this summer. We will be adding Wi-Fi, as well. We are excited to be able to offer these new services to our community!
October 2011 Director's Message
If you have been in the library recently you will know that we now have WiFi!!! This is exciting as it enables patrons to use their own laptops with the library's broadband connection. You may also update your e-readers and other wireless devices. You may also utilize our WiFi network outside library hours in our parking lot.
As we've been promising for months, new computers will be online within the next few weeks. This will expand our public computers to eleven units. We will also have color printing available soon. Shortly, we will also be updating our older computers to Windows 7 and Office 2010 Professional.
With summer vacations a thing of the past and cooler weather approaching, think about joining us for our adult book club. In October we are reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. Cells from Mrs. Lacks have survived since her death in 1951 and Ms Skloot writes her story and its implications in this book of medical journalism.
Our Movie Night is still the 4th Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM. The movies shown are usually recent.
Our After-School movies will be scheduled soon and will appear on our calendar.
Pre-School story time will be the fourth Monday of the month at 9:30 AM except November and December.
