Children Alone in the Library
Our Library policy on unattended children
Children age seven and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The Library cannot assume responsibility for children who are unable to care for themselves, are unattended for a long period of time or are not picked up at closing time. In the event that such a situation arises, Library staff will take the following steps:
- The Librarian will try to obtain the name, address and telephone number of the child.
- A member of the Library staff will try to locate the parent or guardian.
- If the Librarian cannot locate the parent or guardian, the Librarian will cann the police and will stay with the child until a parent, guardian or the police officer arrives and assumes responsibility for the child.
- The Librarian will record the incident in writing.
